To better understand the reason behind the name, try to imagine yourself in the middle of funnel shaped landscapes surrounded by a huge variety of trees. This is where we will be heading this time, Ammoua.

Located in the heart of Akkar, Ammoua includes multiple water sources sufficient enough to irrigate most of the surrounding villages in the area

Ammoua is also known for comprising more than 40 kinds of trees, out of which the rare fir trees. It is there where you can find the sole fir or iron oak forest in Lebanon where some trees reach 30 meters high.

To make sure that all participants have the privilege to experience this natural wonder, we have divided our hike into 3 levels:

Level 2 – Easy and flat, limited to the Ammoua plain
Level 3 – A bit longer on a moderate pace, with minor ascents and descents.
Both levels 2 and 3 will have enough time to contemplate the beautiful scenery, rest and take pictures
Level 6 will be longer and quite tough with long and steep ascents. Once they reach the top, hikers who will choose this level will be rewarded by splendid views overlooking the beautiful Akkar area

All levels will meet for lunch in the Iron Oak forest.

Arriving there might take us some more time than usual, but it is definitely worth it. It is one of the hidden wonders of our beloved country and worth every effort to see it

Renowned for enclosing the largest pine forest in Lebanon and the Middle East covering 1 million square meters, Bkassine is an essential elements of Jezzine district due to its abundant pine production supplying major parts of the country.

Looking “northwards” on the map of the world, Bkassine’s forest is the last pine tree forest before reaching the south of Turkey. Therefore, a hike in such a significant forest is not to be missed

Our hike in Bkassine will be divided into three levels

Level 6 – starting from Sabbah, a village located on a high hill and rich in historical ruins. You will then visit Dar al Mouallimeen and head to the wonderful pine forest of Bkassine on an uphill trail leading you to Dhour el Ramleh where beautiful sceneries can be seen such as Jezzine city and waterfall, Niha village and Chouf district. After being rewarded with these beautiful landscapes, you will continue toward a cliff and go in another breathtaking part of the pine forest to reach Rommaneh where huge old oak trees will draw the perfect setting for a lunch among them.

Level 2 – will start by visiting a factory where pine nuts are extracted and packed for sale. You will take your time and learn the process step by step. You will then head to Bkassine square to visit important landmarks of the village. After the visit, you will take the bus to Ras Jezzine to meet with the other levels and continue the trail to have lunch all together

Since we will be in the area, our trip cannot be complete without a quick tour to Jezzine. We will take a quick walk all together. We will start from the main water source of Jezzine and witness how water goes out from the deep tunnel inside the mountain.

We will probably visit the famous handcrafted cutlery workshop of Jezzine, if the owner is around and can operate as it is usually closed on Sundays. Then we will head to the souk to see how that cutlery are displayed and sold.

We will then head to the city’s piazza and see an old monument that has now become the municipality hall.

After that we will head to the picturesque scenery of the huge waterfall and end our visit in Dr. Farid Serhal’s Palace

This event is a melting pot of ecotourism, history and cultural excursions all in line for us to appreciate the richness of resources in of our beloved country Lebanon.

Sat 19 Aug - Wine & Arak Tour VT

Our monthly wine tours have been one of our most sought after events of every month. But this time, we thought we would add a little twist to our wine tour and make it just a little different. You will have the chance to indulge in both wine and arak tasting.

Arak, also called ‘the milk of lions’, is the national alcoholic drink of Lebanon. It is given this nick-name because of its highly potent character. This colorless spirit is anis flavored, and turns to a milky-white liquid after water and/or ice are added. It is much sought after by those who indulge in good food, good mood and the Mediterranean joie de vivre.

In this event, we will visit three important Wine & Arak factories.
We will start our tour by a visit to Domaine Des Tourelles. This Winery is the Winner of many international awards, and is the second oldest winery, founded by Francois-Eugène Brun in 1868. Nothing but a visit to its yellow stone and cedar wood cellars can begin to unravel the mystery of this age-old family estate. There we will have the privilege of tasting all of the wine types they have to offer, as well as their own Arak Brun, which is widely renowned by the Arak experts and is considered as one of the first and most important brands of Arak in Lebanon.

Our next stop will be at Massaya. There, we will taste both the wine and Arak in the Massaya domain. This domain decided to revive the distillation of homemade Arak, and where the famous blue bottles of Arak turned into an instant success.

We will end our wine and Arak tour with a visit to Nakad. The story of Château Nakad is first and foremost that of a family of three generations of winemakers from the Bekaa Valley, whose blood runs with passion for soil, wine, and grapes. More importantly, the winery is built on the remains of wine cellars dating back to the Bronze Age. We will have a quick tour of the winery, and then get introduced to the proper method of tasting guided by Mr. Jalal Nakad, an expert in this domain. At Nakad, we will get to taste their different wines, as well as their own brand of arak called Arak Al Samir. This family run winery is surely not to be missed.

After such a delightful experience in our prestigious wineries, it will be time for lunch.  We will go to Hotel Massabki in Chtaura. With vast gardens and a nearby stream, this 4 Star hotel will be the best way to end our tour. There, Lunch will be served with soft drinks.

Karm El Mohr is a small village situated in Kaza of Donniyeh in North Lebanon.
The Town of Karm Al Mohr is home to the Aisha Fortress built on the heights of Al Fawwar spring. It is a huge rock carrying the ruins of what used to be an important palace or protection center, overseeing an old road linking the Donniyeh region to Ba’albeck across the mountains of Kornet el Sawda and Foum el Mizab.

Princess Aisha was the princess of Bchenneta during the 13th century. Aisha Fortress was her summer residence.
The view from the fortress is worth every step you have endured to get there.  It is windy and cold up there, so get a windbreaker with you.

The hike will be in beautiful surroundings with water springs and forests.  The hike will start from “Swekeh”. Both levels will meet along the way in Ain Neblayya and continue together to the beautiful cedar forest.  There will be enough time to hike in the forest.  The lunch break will be there too. After lunch both levels will hike together until Karm el Mohr.
LEVEL 7 is about 16 km long.  It is uphill and tough.  You have about 700m of difference in altitude. You will start from “Swekeh”, and take an uphill path until you reach the fortress.  From up there, you will see wonderful views.  It is windy and cold at the top.  Get a windbreaker! Afterwards, you will meet with level 4 at Ain Neblayya where you can fill your bottles with fresh water. From there you will go the beautiful forest and have lunch there. After lunch both levels will hike together to go to Karm el Mohr where the buses will be waiting.
