1. Beit Chabeb Hike

This event is a combination of hiking and cultural excursion. We are going to visit one of the biggest most beautiful villages in Metn, the typical village of Beit Chabab.

The name derives from Syriac, meaning “the house of the neighbor.”

This village has retained its traditional crafts of pottery and bell making into the modern age.

The only bell factory in Lebanon, the craftsmen here cast the half-ton bronze bells in a single mold.  The bells are usually made for Lebanon's Christian churches, who order them to a specific pitch. This traditional craft has been handed in from generation to generation in the Naffaa family.  Detailed explanation of how the process is done will be generously offered to you.

We can also find in Beit Chabab the exceptional pottery workshops, which are open only during the summer months. We will visit a workshop led by the only craftsman in this domain, Fawzi Hanna Fakhoury. Fawzi will show you the long and tiring process of this craft. We will be lucky to witness such an art before it gets extinct!

The village also includes plenty of traditional houses and churches, the oldest of which is the Saydet el Ghabeh (Our Lady of the Forest), which dates to 1761.

Dima, is the oldest and most famous fabric factory that used to supply the local market, and also go for export.  This factory is now considered a tourist attraction and is registered in the ministry of tourism.
Mr. Joseph Anaysseh is the sole craftsman trying hard to preserve this work of art.  It is important to come and visit such a traditional craft.

You will also see the “Maswal” (the big stone pool where the pottery mud gets soaked and cleared from pebbles), an old abandoned textile factory from the times of the Turks, and the hermitage of St. Roukoz.

All of these points of interest will be visited while we hike and walk in Beit Chabab.

It will be a one level hike, about 12 km of moderate difficulty.  The hike will be in the vast forests of Beit Chabab and the neighboring village called Mar Boutros. You will encounter wonderful views in the midst of nature.  There will be a muddy spot where you will have to cross with a bit of adventure. The hike will be intervened by some stretches of roads and stony staircases.

Our tour in this village is unique.  You will be amazed to find out how rich it is in craftsmanship, typical Lebanese houses, old abandoned houses, and vast forests.

This hike is a melting pot of cultural sites, beautiful hike in nature, and a tour among old houses and narrow stone staircases.

The citadel was later occupied by the Romans, who left various inscriptions on its northern wall, followed by the Crusaders, who have built cellars next to its towers and a church to the east of the citadel. 5. Anjar Kfarzabada Hike

We are heading to the amazing town of Anjar where nature and history combine

Anjar Umayyad Ruins and Kfar Zabad Hima are our destination. We would first like to appreciate the amazing work done by the municipality and the youth of Anjar and the immense contribution to ecotourism and its development in the area.

Below is a snapshot of our main destination

Anjar Umayyad Ruins:

Anjar is a relative new-comer, going back to the early 8th Century AD, the Umayyad period. The Umayyads were the first of the two great dynasties of the Arab Moslem Empire.

Unlike Tyre and Byblos, which claim continuous habitation since the day they were founded, Anjar flourished for only a few decades.

At other historical sites in the country, different epochs and civilization are superimposed one on top of the other. Anjar is exclusively one period, the Umayyad.
The walls of the Great Palace are still largely intact, with clues to the former presence of forty towers.

Kfar Zabad Nature Reserve:

Kfar Zabad wetland is a small marshland on the level plain of the Bekaa Valley which is on the main migration route for African-Eurasian water birds. Kfar Zabad Marshlands were declared as “Hima”(community based protected area).  Wetlands being a rarity in this country, Kfar Zabad Hima is of great importance.

Our hike will be divided into three levels: 2, 3 and 5.

Our first stop will be in Anjar.  We will visit the ruins and learn about the Umayyad period.

Then we will start the hike together towards Anjar Reserve, passing by the river source. It will be an easy hike in fields, meadows and small farms. We will see farmers harvesting their crops. It is a new sight to the eye since the laborers differ in culture, dress code and dialect.

Level 2 & 3 will then take an easy trail while level 5 will go uphill to the hills overlooking the area.

When we get to the summit, we will see a reserve and two caves.

Level 2 & 3 will see the bottom one, while the Level 5 will see both caves.

Once at the top, both levels will see beautiful panoramic views of the wonderful Bekaa valley, spanning all around us.

We will also pass by an old water mill in the area, and pass by some beautiful woods before meeting at the end in a wonderful restaurant by the lakes, to have a traditional Armenian lunch prepared by the locals of Anjar.

After lunch, there will be an optional hard level hike to the neighboring Kfarzabad reserve

The total length of the trail is around 4 km for level 2, 7 km for level 3 and 12 km for level 5.

If time permits, on our way back, we will visit the ‘Makam’ of ‘Nabi Azer’.  It is a place of worship, situated at the top of a hill overlooking the Hima.

11. Oyoun el Samak Hike

We are heading “Oyoun el Samak” one of the most amazing, “unknown” places in Lebanon. Located on the shores of “Nahr el Bared”, the river that separates “Doniyeh” from “Akkar” casa, “Oyoun el Samak” offers endless breathtaking and picturesque views that will leave you in awe.
The name is inspired by the multiple water sources that nourish the river and creates with those masterpiece views.
The area was and still is a major attraction for many artist and singers that filmed their video clips in its beautiful surroundings
It is really a hiking experience that is not to be missed. We have divided our hike into two levels
Level 2 - will be an easy walk along the river bank where we will see a lot of trees all along the shores. We will have enough time to rest, contemplate the beautiful views and take pictures. The walk will lead you to the restaurant located on the foot of a fascinating waterfall. This is where you will rest and prepare for lunch until the other group joins

Level 5 – will start on an uphill track that will lead you to the top of the mountain overlooking the whole area. We will then start descending towards Oyoun el Samak village reaching an amazing spot overlooking the whole lake and village. We will continue downward towards the river bank and do the same tour as the easy level next to the riverbank and then continue from the other side to reach the restaurant

Both levels will meet for lunch in a very special local restaurant

On the way back, we will visit Makam el Nabi Youchaa, a very important religious sanctuary
