JOIN CYCLAMEN SNOWSHOEING LALOUQ 31 January 2010

For bookings please contact Tarek on 70 205275

Fed up of the rain? This Sunday will be a fine sunny day, so join us for our first snowshoeing trip of the season! We will head to Laqlouq making a short stop along the way to pick up picnice supplies. On the way we will stop to pick up the snowshoes , on arrival our local expert snowshoeing guide will give a briefing about how to properly wear and use the snowshoe equipment. Then we will begin to snowshoe at Arab el Laqlouq (1780m ) and continue along the plains below the Jabal el Salib - Expect some incredible views over the mountain range!!!

A few TIPS from CYCLAMEN for snowshoeing The good news is that anyone who can walk can go snowshoeing – However, snowshoeing presents a greater challenge and requires more effort than dry hiking, so be absolutely sure that you are fit to stay with the group. This snowshoe hike involves ascending a total of approx. 300m in fresh soft snow, and is certainly considered as intermediate to difficult.

It is helpful to be with a guide to direct you along the way – anyway snowshoeing is much more fun in a group !

WHAT TO WEAR: You won't need to buy a lot of expensive gear for snowshoeing, chances are some of it is probably in your closet! Here is a list of what you could expect to wear:

· Warm layers: Mom and Dad always told you to dress in layers, and they were right! Put on some non-cotton long underwear as a foundation with an middle insulating layer of fleece or wool. Include an outer layer to block wind or snow if the conditions demand it. You can shed layers as you get warm and put them back on as you cool.‬
· Footwear: Warm socks (wool or polypropylene), waterproof hiking boots, winter boots, or even your waterproof running shoes! ‬Bring an extra pair to change into for the bus ride home
· ‪Hat and Gloves: Both of these items are very important for any winter weather. Remember you lose a considerable amount of heat from your head. If you're cold- put a hat on.‬
· Extras: Sunscreen and sunglasses are a must! And even if it's cold out, you still need to keep hydrated, so bring a water bottle - Ski pants are not advisable to avoid overheating. Hiking pants are a better choice, wear thermal underwear if you have.

ABOUT CYCLAMEN: Our philosophy is to increase awareness of Lebanon's natural and cultural heritage through non-profit activities, which include hikes and treks in rural regions.

We always aim to hire local guides for the hikes and encourage visitors to purchase food locally.
