Under the auspices of Lebanese Ministries of Tourism and Environment, Believe in Lebanon NGO, in collaboration with the UN Information Centre in Beirut (UNIC Beirut), is organizing a sports and environmental awareness event entitled, “Walk for the Love of Lebanon and Nature” on Saturday 10 August starting 5PM at Ain Ksour, Aley.

The event entails a walk in three villages starting from Ain Ksour to Abey and ending in Kfarmatta, all in Aley district. It aims at raising awareness on the need to maintain good health by walking regularly, and on preserving the environment allowing people to breath clean air and enjoy nature.

The walk will also be an occasion to shed light on the importance of recycling waste in Lebanon by training people on how to sort their waste. Prior to the walk, members of Believe in Lebanon will provide all participants with non-organic waste, including plastic, paper and metal, and guide them throughout the walk on how to dump the waste in specific containers placed alongside the track in all three villages.

The walk will also witness the planting of trees in Ain Ksour, Abey and Kfarmatta in a show of support to the preservation of green spaces in Lebanon.

Some 200 participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Environment and UNIC Beirut, members of NGOs, community members, as well as youth and children will take part in the walk, which will culminate in a traditional village festival at St. George’s Church in Kfarmatta. The festival will feature short statements by the organizers and the ministry of environment and will include recreational activities, folkloric dances and food stands.
