The representative of Lebanon to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the representative of the UN in Lebanon have asked EddéSands to host an event for every country represented in the UNIFIL, with the assistance of their embassies.
The main objective is to create a “Traditional Event” for each country to show off its Culture – Art – Music – Gastronomy to the host country Lebanon, to be enjoyed by Expatriates and Lebanese alike.
These Traditional Events will be aiming at reflecting the Authenticity, Specifity and Diversity of each country in terms of Positive Image Building, strengthening Socio-Economic, cultural and Environmental dimensions, increasing Friendship, Moral Values, Love for culture and nature, developing sustainable responsible tourism within the framework of the Millenium Goals and, last but not least, boosting Peace and Prosperity.
Ireland was chosen as the first country of these Traditional Events because of its happy feast, the feast of its patron saint, Saint Patrick. Unfortunately, due to the current situation in Lebanon, we were unable to bring over the musicians, dancers, artists, authors, actors, photographers, chefs as initially planned.
But it takes a lot more to dampen the Irish spirit.
We are going forward with the feast at a smaller scale to introduce the Lebanese people to a little Irish culture. To give them the opportunity to have a glimpse of the character and mentality of those men and women who have so bravely defended the southern borders of Lebanon.
Many have given their lives in their effort. And many have contributed to the social development of the local population.
Let us toast and thank the Irish for their staunch presence in Lebanon.

- Eddé Sands has been asked to organize a series of events in honor of the UNIFIL troops in Lebanon. We have taken advantage of the up and coming St. Patrick's Day, which falls in March to honor the Irish UNIFIL troops as our first venture. Due to security reasons and the general clamp down on public activities in Lebanon, we will not do the grand fanfare, which we had planned initially but a series of smaller events starting on 15th March.
- A small opening ceremony at 4.30 in the old Souk in Byblos, with attending dignitaries who will announce that this is the first in a series of activities to honor the UNIFIL troops stationed in Lebanon and in particular the Irish UNIFIL troops who celebrate Saint Patrick their Patron Saint – on the 17th March.
Our shops will have Irish merchandise to show the Lebanese and Irish culture - and to give a ray of sunshine during these gloomy times.
- The opening ceremony will be followed by the screening of the Ireland-England rugby match in both pubs at Eddé Yard and at Eddé Sands.
- The rugby match will be followed by an Irish dinner in the souk where there will be a DJ and Irish music with an Irish harpist.
