2nd February each year is World Wetlands Day. It marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Cyclamen takes this opportunity to organize a trip to Aamiq, a wetland in the Bekaa Valley aimed at raising public awareness of wetland values and benefits in general.
This area is very important for both breeding, and migrating birds since it is one of very few wetlands left in the intensely cultivated Bekaa Valley. Water surfaces, reed beds and endless surrounding fields and meadows can be discovered in this bird watching area, located along a major migration route from Asia to Africa.
Cyclamen trip will include:
- Bird watching at the wetland
- Hike up Qalaaet el Mudiq, a hill above the wetland and continue along the hillside above the wetland to the pine woods above Aamiq village
- Snack lunch will be prepared by the local community.
