Despite its minuscule population, this petite principality attracts 10 million tourists a year – impressive for a country with no airport or train station and, until recently, poor roads. But smooth highways now dissect these Pyrenean highlands (Andorra's average elevation is 1996m), and an airport is planned for 2010, just 15km over the border in Spain. Indeed, aside from shopping (this tax haven is famed for duty-free bargains), the mountains are the big draw for pleasant skiing in winter and hiking in summer – follow the Victor Hugo trail to Vianden for a mix of scenery and a peep into the exiled writer's former home.
