Bermuda is about far more than shorts, triangles and keeping up with the Douglas-Zeta-Joneses. Though the majority of visitors to this destination land and leave on cruise ships (there are more than half a million each year), a good few stay on to manage its thriving offshore economy – allowing Bermuda to sustain a per capita GDP that is about 50% higher than that of the USA. For independent travelers, away from the gloss put on for the cruise passengers there's pink-sand beach aplenty in this conglomerate of around 138 islands, which are well-served by bus and passenger ferry and conveniently connected by road bridge. Swing by in March and April 2009 for the islands' acclaimed independent film festival.
