This trio of pretty islands, set in suitably turquoise seas, boasts two 'mosts': the most lavish standard of living of any Caribbean destination (aided by its offshore business boom); and, less happily, the most hurricane strikes of anywhere in the Atlantic basin. Luckily for the Caymans, the last few years have seen more CEOs than sea storms, the last big hit being Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Having bounced right back, the Caymans ranks as one of the world's topmost scuba destinations, while its Georgetown port can experience tourist swells of over 20,000 visitors per day when the cruise ships come pouring in. To escape the cruising crowds, your best bet is to head down beneath the crystalline waves to explore one of the Caymans' long-lost shipwrecks or to duck and dive with friendly manta rays.
