Just 980,000 people visit this diminutive grand duchy each year. Perhaps they're the ones who know it has more Michelin stars per square kilometer than any other country. Or perhaps they've twigged that Luxembourg is the first city to have been named European Capital of Culture twice (1995 and 2007). The capital of culture tag spurred a legacy of ecothinking, new hiking trails and a spaghetti tangle of cycle tracks that's still being extended and should cover 900km by the time work's completed. Cyclists be warned: it's hilly but the pretty trail along the Mosel River is flatter and allows for wine-tasting along the way.
