Mozambique is, without doubt, the next big African destination. Those in the know already swear by its beaches, high-end ecotourism offerings, and slow and steady pace of life. Despite its dark history and fairly regular violent crime in Maputo, Mozambique's offerings seem to know no bounds. If your budget will allow it, head to the Bazaruto Archipelago for sea and sands from a dream, now largely designated a marine reserve to protect its stunning coral reefs. If you're in a volunteering frame of mind, there are plenty of projects throughout the country looking for willing participants, such as the sanitisation charity Estamos, which won the 2008 Goldman Environmental Prize. Whatever you do, get there soon, before everyone else does. |
