South Korea has begun to appeal to travellers who've pretty much done the rest of the Asian continent and are looking for something new. Increasing tourism isn't South Korea's only economy-booster. In 2008, new president Lee Myung-bak (also known as The Bulldozer for his forceful determination) took up office with the promise 'Economy First', planning to boost the economy, cut unemployment, and become a major world player in the face of competition from China and Japan. Visitors, though, will probably spend more time in the great outdoors than experiencing Seoul's economic growth, with skiing, ice festivals, mineral springs and national parks all on the South Korean cards. |
