It's surprising that more travellers don't find their way to Venezuela which, for a start, boasts a longer Caribbean coastline than any other country. The nation is still probably best known, however, for outspoken president Hugo Chavez who, at the time of writing, was contemplating a 2010 referendum to allow him to extend his term in office for as many years as he continues winning elections (seemingly undaunted by having lost a similar referendum in 2007). Whatever happens, it's clear that tourism isn't yet approaching its full potential, so visit now while two of the world's 'biggest' and 'longest' (waterfalls and cable cars) are still without the associated hordes of camera-clicking tourists.
