Popular as ever among holidaymakers from the USA, it might seem there's nowhere much for the Virgin Islands to go except to continue on the tourism road it's been travelling for quite some time. Still, this duty-free haven of crystalline seas and tourist-brochure beaches – in parts British (BVI), in others US-governed (USVI) – has pockets still ripe for discovery. Head to St John for the Virgin Islands National Park, a vast tract of unpopulated parkland, or to the parks and ecological reserves on St Croix, which despite possessing an international airport is less touristed simply because it's slightly further from the other islands. Otherwise there's not much to do except bask on beautiful beaches like Loblolly Bay, along with the cruise-ship crowds. |
