Robert Mouawad Private Palace Museum - read text in arabic

The Robert Mouawad Private Museum, formerly known as Henri Pharaon palace, where carved stone, polychrome marble, painted wood, old metallic objects, Chinese porcelain, Islamic pottery, Phoenician statues, Greco-Roman steles, Byzantine capitals, jewelry, books and manuscripts cohabit in matchless harmony, surrounded by palm trees, cypresses, pines, and olive trees.

GROUND FLOOR

1 - 1st room on the left (The Dining Room)

· Around the table (designed by Henry Pharaon) was sketched and co-signed by Lebanese leaders the first Lebanese national flag.

· A carved stone chimney (Damascus, Syria, Kouatli Palace. End XVIIIth c.)

· A wooden iconostasis sculpted and painted (Orthodox Church, Asia Minor,

XVIth c) decorating the top of the door.

2 - South Wing (left)

· Islamic Pottery (Syria, Persia. XIIth - XIVth c.)

· Metal Objects (Syria, Egypt, Turkey. XIIth - XIVth c., XVIth - XIXth c.)

The 2nd largest diamond in the world (1893)

Painted wooden window (Aleppo, Syria, late XVIth - early XVIIth c.).
The most beautiful wooden piece of the museum.

In early thirties, Charles de Gaulle (still commander in the French army) spent 3
days in this room.

8 - Last gallery on the left

Phoenician statuettes (South Lebanon, Vth - IVth c. B.C.)
Islamic Pottery (Syria, Mesopotamia, XIIth - XIVth c.)

9 - Central Hall

A collection of Carafes and Narghiles (Houkah - Shisha) made in Bohemia for
the countries of the Ottoman Empire (XIXth - XXth c.)
