Jeita grotto

Twenty kilometres north of Beirut a picturesque coastal road climbs up under the shadow of the statue of Christ the King and then winds over a hill among pine trees and olive trees before taking us down into the valley of the "Dog River". There the opening of a cave leads us into the very depths of the earth. We find ourselves in a vast fantastic cavern where water, deep, calm and pure, reflects the many-thousand-year-old stalactites suspended from the high roof. This is a scene that takes us back to the first dawn of creation, leaving us spellbound with awe...
